Review of Proposal from Metro Kathalu

Updated: Feb 3, 2022

Guys n gals rocking India's cities and towns - Are there guys like Chandu still out there in metro India?

Metro Kathalu - Proposal - story review by Harinath Babu
Metro Kathalu - Proposal - Nakshatra and Thiruveer - "Go, first tell your parents what all I've told you. We'll see what happens. Then I'll tell you where that boy kissed me."

"Intermediate lo oka abbayi muddu pettu kunnadu, annavu kadha, ekkada muddu pettu kunnadu?" (ఇంటర్మీడియట్ లో ఒక అబ్బాయి ముద్దు పెట్టు కున్నాడు, అన్నావు కదా, ఎక్కడ ముద్దు పెట్టు కున్నాడు?) Chandu asks Abhirami, leaving it to the viewers to wonder whether Chandu (played by Thiruveer) will give up or follow through on his marriage proposal to Abhirami (played by Nakshatra). The 12-odd minutes of Proposal, the first of the four stories of Metro Kathalu. is perhaps a rather short time to draw out the emotions of the two characters but Thiruveer does a decent job of portraying a reticent young man in love and manages to look old-fashioned enough when he delivers the punchline.

Nakshatra, expressive in quite a few scenes, shows promise and can do better. I salute Karuna Kumar for presenting Metro Kathalu - an anthology of 4 stories, each different from the other - a tough task for a director to hold the attention of audiences generally used to one story featuring one hero, one heroine and the ensemble around them. Audiences should welcome and encourage such out of the ordinary storytelling efforts.

As a small token of my appreciation for such novel work, I thought I would write a few lines about each of the stories in separate posts.

Wishing the Metro Kathalu team all the best!
